Maria Henriquez

Ms. Maria moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2003, not knowing English. Since then, she graduated from Denbigh High School, earned a degree in Human Services from Old Dominion University, and a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Norfolk State University in 2015. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Work.

Her teaching journey began in the Dominican Republic as the dance captain of her school’s team in 7th grade. She has danced in various Latin rhythms such as salsa, bachata, merengue, cha-cha, rumba, and samba, and has taken ballet, tap, and jazz for over 20 years.

From her first day at the Academy of Dance, Ms. Maria fell in love with her students. Her passion is to build strong, empathic, and kind dancers. She always strives to bring joy to others.

Ms. Maria’s favorite quote: “If you don't think every day is a good day, just try missing one.” ― Cavett Robert
